Weight-based preference rules used directly in the SAP process

– It's easy with M.SecureTrade preference management

Many preference rules are based not on the value of goods, but on the weight of individual components. This is precisely where the latest enhancement to M.SecureTrade Preference Management comes in: weight criteria can now be seamlessly integrated into your existing preference calculation - without media discontinuity, without additional tools, directly in the SAP system.

This allows you to take customs requirements based on weight proportions into account in the same calculation process that you already use with M.SecureTrade. What does that mean in concrete terms?

The solution automatically takes weight information into account when evaluating preference rules. To do this, it draws on data from the material master, bills of materials, and SAP documents and compares it with the stored preference specifications. The corresponding rules can be maintained flexibly and easily adapted when changes are made to the rules.

The result: a rule-based and traceable preference assessment that takes place directly in the operational process.

A case study

A food manufacturer exports muesli mixes to countries outside the EU.

Preferential rules apply to the relevant commodity code, which relate, among other things, to the weight of the ingredients used. For example, the proportion of ingredients originating in the EU must be at least 70 percent of the total weight for the goods to be considered preferential.

In this scenario, M.SecureTrade automatically takes the weights of the individual ingredients from the bill of materials, the material master, or SAP SD documents. On this basis, the system calculates the weight-related origin share and evaluates the preferential eligibility of the delivery directly in the process.

Manual checks or separate calculations are no longer necessary, as the evaluation is integrated and rule-based.

Added value for your company

The integration of weight-based preference rules brings noticeable advantages:

  • Efficiency: Automated evaluations save time and reduce sources of error
  • Process reliability: Weight data is processed transparently with system support
  • Flexibility: Rules can be individually maintained and adapted
  • Consistency: The solution integrates seamlessly into your existing SAP SD and costing processes

Advantages for your company with the new feature for preference calculation in SAP

  • Increased efficiency: Automated evaluation saves time and reduces sources of error
  • Process reliability: Weight data is processed in a system-supported and traceable manner
  • Flexibility: Rules can be maintained individually
  • Seamless integration: The function integrates directly into existing SAP SD processes and calculation processes

The key factor: significantly less manual effort

After the initial maintenance of the relevant regulations, the system takes over the operational preference assessment. Specialist departments are relieved, throughput times are shortened, and foreign trade processing becomes more robust overall.

An additional aspect: in many cases, weight-based rules are less sensitive to fluctuating raw material prices or mixing ratios than value-based approaches.& This often increases the chance of a positive preference determination, which has a direct impact on import duties and overall costs. This provides a more stable basis for determining preferences, especially for products with variable compositions. Well equipped for future requirements

As the PEM agreements continue to evolve, weight-based rules are becoming increasingly important. In the future, only weight-based preference calculations will be possible for individual HS positions.

Companies that rely on automated and SAP-integrated processes at an early stage are laying the foundation for sustainable compliance and securing measurable competitive advantages in international trade. With M. SecureTrade provides comprehensive support for your preference management, not only to meet compliance requirements, but also to leverage commercial advantages in a targeted manner.
