Shipping logistics in SAP

Streamline your logistics processes

Challenges such as mass customization, Brexit or new trade agreements increase the expectations placed on employees in logistics. The use of an integrated transport management solution relieves employees of routine tasks. And through intelligent cooperation between suppliers, manufacturers, logistics service providers and customers, inefficiencies in the supply chain can be eliminated.

Whether the classic SAP ERP or S/4HANA platform is used, Mercoline's future-proof solutions are used in both worlds.

Solution components in transport logistics

Mercoline offers a suite of components to overcome your challenges in shipping logistics. Some components consist of software modules developed by Mercoline. Other components extend your existing SAP functionality by customzing your SAP system. The individual modules can be deployed stand-alone or as part of the suite.

Packaging and labeling

As the central component, M.TransportCommunicator is involved in the preparation of labels, manifestos and communications with the LSP. M.PackingStation is the application to create handling units easily and swiftly. To increase the user-friendliness even further, the connection of scales and a scanner is advantageous. This reduces data entry errors, thereby avoiding unnecessary corrections in subsequent steps.

Freight rate calculation

Customers want an overview of freight costs during the ordering process. Shipment cost calculation is used for the preliminary calculation of delivery costs for different transport services.
Typical questions:

  • How much does the delivery cost for different transport service providers?
  • How much more expensive is an express delivery?

Freight cost settlement

After the handover to the LSP, the determination of the actual freight costs can take place. These costs are then used to compare the LSP invoice data. The integration into the SAP system simplifies and accelerates this process.
Typical questions:

  •  What are the shipping rates for this shipment?
  • Is my freight invoice correct?

Freight cost analysis

Analysis of freight charges related to different parameters:

Typical questions:

  • Does my parcel meet the promised delivery times?
  • What are my shipping volume according to different regions or transportation service?

Packaging instructions using standard SAP functionality

For more complex packaging processes, packaging instructions can be made by the SAP system. Depending on your use case, automatic packing can be useful.

Packaging material management in SAP

Packaging materials can be managed in inventory, so that automatic call-offs to suppliers are possible. It is also possible to implement returnable packaging management, which can be used for pallet management, for example.

Freight list with standard SAP functionality

In addition to the LSP manifests in M.TransportCommunicator, further freight lists can be generated, for example to carry out a loading check.

Dangerous goods using standard SAP functionality

Dangerous goods data that is maintained in SAP materials are included in the shipping process. The dangerous goods classes and amounts of the material can be communicated to the LSP. Likewise, other documents such as HazMat documents or danger labels can be printed. In addition, a consulting solution for companies that ship only a limited number of dangerous goods can be implemented.
