ATLAS - Information sheet for customs declarations 2025

The SAP cosmos is constantly evolving, driven by technological innovations, regulatory requirements and the increasing pressure for digitalisation. Technological change and the growing challenges in global supply chains will result in clear priorities for 2025. Three trends stand out in particular:

Dual Use Regulation - Current changes

At the end of the year, the annexes to the Dual Use Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2021/821) were adapted to current technical developments. The amendments are expected to come into force at the end of 2024/beginning of 2025. The EU Commission has already published a draft on this. The BAFA (Federal Office of Economics and Export Control) provides a comparison of the changes, which can be used to check whether there are any changes for your own group of goods (please note that there are some minor changes in the parameters of the technical equipment). Dual-use goods are goods with a dual purpose - i.e. goods that can be used for both civilian and military purposes or manufactured for the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. In terms of export control, these are not only goods, but also software and the transfer of knowledge that enables the production of these goods.

Truma modernises export processes through digitalization and automation

Truma, the leading manufacturer of heating and air conditioning systems for recreational vehicles, has used the introduction of ATLAS AES 3.0 to modernise its export processes. With the new features of AES 3.0, companies like Truma can now benefit from a simplified and more transparent export process that facilitates the handling of international shipments. The aim was to increase the effectiveness and compliance of export processes and ensure smooth integration into existing system landscapes. At the same time, it was important to improve customer satisfaction through optimised and automated processes.

Under S/4HANA, it is now also possible to take into account default values for the commodity code that differ from the material master in the ATLAS document system.

Transport logistics updates in the first half of 2024

The digitalisation of transport logistics will progress even further in 2024. The new year will see important projects for shippers who use DHL Express, UPS or FedEx with M.TransportCommunicator or M.ShippingRates:  FedEx and UPS have announced major API modernisations that will be supported with updates to M.ShippingRates and M.TransportCommunicator in early March 2024. Due to the mandatory changes that FedEx and UPS are introducing, shippers must implement important interface updates by June 2024 to ensure uninterrupted shipping. The focus of the interface updates is to further increase the cyber security of the transport service provider backends. Mercoline will support you in this project with targeted implementation support and the appropriate software. There will also be two webinars specifically for the UPS migration in January 2024.
