The Windsor Framework - New trade arrangements for Northern Ireland and Great Britain
With the Windsor Framework, the European Union and the United Kingdom have created a new basis for the trade in goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The agreement, which was presented in February 2023, replaces the previous Northern Ireland Protocol and is intended to reduce barriers to trade without jeopardising the integrity of the EU single market. A key innovation is the dual-track system for the movement of goods. A ‘green corridor’ enables simplified procedures for products that remain in Northern Ireland, while a ‘red corridor’ is provided for goods that are transported further into the EU and are subject to the usual customs and health checks. Companies must be fully converted to the new regulations by 31 March 2025.

At this year's Fruit Logistica 2025, a team from Mercoline actively supported the Berliner Tafel food rescue campaign. Together with numerous helpers, 57,000 kilograms of food were saved from disposal and passed on to social organisations.

AI-generated unit tests for ABAP
Automation is becoming increasingly important in software development. The rapid development of artificial intelligence is opening up new opportunities to increase efficiency in development. Writing unit tests is a central step in quality assurance at Mercoline. A unit test consists of predefined values or algorithms that check the correct functioning of individual methods of a programme. The creation of these tests is time-consuming and has so far been almost impossible to automate - especially as writing creative scenarios requires specific expertise. With the growing capabilities of modern AI, we have now tested the potential of using it to generate unit tests.
