Cyber-Security-Updates at FedEx and UPS

FedEx and UPS are implementing mandatory interface updates for cyber security reasons by May and June 2024 respectively: For all shippers, this means urgently needed software updates for M.TransportCommunicator and M.ShippingRates and their implementation in order to realise uninterrupted shipping processes.

We are supporting our customers from mid-March with targeted implementation projects for the necessary software updates. 

UPS Paperless Invoice

UPS shippers have also been informed by UPS about the additional costs that will be incurred from April if export shipments are not provided with electronic invoice data ("UPS Paperless Invoice" procedure). Paperless Invoice has been available in M.TransportCommunicator for several years without additional licence costs.

We are happy to support our customers in setting up the process and also in automating the compilation of the necessary data for export with UPS. 

DHL Express

For customers who export shipments with DHL Express, the keywords "Commercial Invoice Integration" and "Paperless Trade" have a high priority this year. Commercial Invoice Integration refers to the transmission of invoice data to DHL Express in the event of an export, which has been supported in M.TransportCommunicator for some time.  

Another new feature since October 2023 (Release 2309) is support for the Paperless Trade process in M.TransportCommunicator:

• This means the electronic transmission of export-relevant document attachments to DHL Express - an obligation for DHL Express shippers by the end of this year. This process is designed to save time, avoid additional costs in import customs clearance and ensure that all relevant information for import customs clearance is available on time without the need for paper documents. 

Projects to implement the process have already started with several customers and we look forward to supporting all Mercoline customers shipping with DHL Express on this journey in the coming months. 

DHL Europaket and DHL Paket

Innovations in the export requirements of DHL Europaket and DHL Paket International were also made available to our customers with a release of M.TransportCommunicator at the beginning of February. 
We provided our customers with information on the aforementioned necessary updates and the procedure for using the software updates in a total of four webinars during the winter:

• These webinars are permanently available online in our customer portal. 

Increased efficiency and future developments

The coming months will be particularly interesting for DHL Express customers, as additional functionalities for data transmission for export shipments in M.TransportCommunicator are planned in coordination with DHL Express: Increasing efficiency through automation in export remains a key topic.

For UPS, the next software updates will also focus on increasing export efficiency in the coming months - for example, by automatically pre-assigning selected export information from invoices by expanding the invoice extractor. 

We are already working closely with our partners Fedex, DPD, GLS and UPS to support shippers with important updates in 2025 that are being pushed by the logistics service providers: In the coming months, we will inform our customers extensively about the upcoming updates in the areas of cyber security and export in order to publicise necessary updates and implementations in good time.
